Cafe 304@newcitychurch is proud to present the paintings of John J Donnelly. His current show, "Layers” will be on display at Cafe 304@newcitychurch starting on June 20th, with a special artist reception from 8-10 PM, and live music from The Sparks.

Cafe 304@newcitychurch is proud to present the paintings of John Donnelly. His current show, “Layers” will be on display at Cafe 304@newcitychurch starting on June 20th, with a special artist reception from 8-10 PM. Also featured will be the music of Greg and Rebecca Ed Sparks, with the release of their new CD, “Love”.

“At the core of my process is an unearthing and excavating of that which is not readily seen. Surfaces are scraped and sanded to reveal embedded striations and colors are exposed evoking a visual lapse of time. Consequently there is a descent into a more ambiguous space, which is beneath the surface on several levels, where form is no longer clear yet not melted away either. The paintings on panels have been power-sanded; the canvases scraped, leaving evidence of the making. My hope is that the paintings have the resonance of a well-weathered wall.”
